Deloitte is the proud sponsor of the 2-day immersion tours in the Greater Bay Area covering customised itineraries for EAIC delegates to understand the development, opportunities, and regulatory landscape in this thriving region.
Supporting the Theme of the EAIC 2024: Building on the Foundation and Exploring the Future, new opportunities for innovation often emerge rapidly and can reshape the status quo in the digital era. In fact, the convergence of industries is changing the way we live, work, and connect with each other. It also presents novel ways for insurers to develop and differentiate with innovative products and service offerings.
The GBA-Themed Immersion Tours will take our delegates to explore the interactions of insurers with the technology, life sciences and healthcare industries as well as the regulatory bodies and academia. This is a fantastic opportunity for global insurers to gain a first-hand experience and assess the market potential, while engaging in thoughtful exchanges with industry peers and Deloitte subject matter experts.
Itinerary highlights: Local tech giants headquarters, science parks, medicine institutes under Mainland-Hong Kong collaboration, and more cultural spots to show the beauty of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the two largest cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Pick up from HKCEC, transfer to Garden Road Peak Tram station for a 8-minute scenic ride on the 6th generation peak tram up to the peak. The Peak - 428 metres above sea level, offers spectacular panoramic views of the vibrant city – from the stunning cityscape to the tranquility of green landscape.
The Peak Circle Walk loops around the highest point on Hong Kong Island, ensuring the best views from every angle. Begins at Lugard Road near the Peak Tower: this road is named after Hong Kong’s 14th Governor, Sir Fredrick Lugard. The sections are narrow, cliff-side paths are called ‘plank roads’. After about 20 minutes, arrive at the Lugard Road lookout, which offers a spectacular panoramic view of Victoria Harbour. Enroute pass by the Tramways Company Limited Luard Road Office (Grade II listed historical site). Lugard Road runs into Harlech Road, which will slowly take you back to The Peak Tower and to the end of your lap around The Peak. Photo stop in front of The Peak Lookout Restaurant- a Grade II listed historical landmark located above the city.
A true icon of Hong Kong, no visit is complete without a ride on the Star Ferry. Harbour crossing between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui restores a sense of HK’s magic! National Geographic Traveler named it as one of 50 “places of a lifetime”. It dates back to 1880 when the Morning Star steamboat started a regular service from Kowloon to Pedder’s Wharf on Hong Kong Island. Businessman Sir Paul Chater (after whom Chater Road and House are named) bought the boats and in 1898 the Star Ferry Company was established, with all ferries bearing the name “Star”.

Pick up from HKCEC, transfer to Central Pier No. 6. Take public ferry to Silver Mine Bay (Mui Wo) of Lantau. After arriving at Mui Wo, first stop at Tai O, a quaint fishing village with a special cultural heritage and a charming environment. Most of its historical setting of waterways, stilted houses and fishing boats have been retained.
Situated on Ngong Ping Plateau and facing the Big Buddha, Po Lin Monastery was formerly known as “the Big Thatched Hut”. Construction of the monastery began in 1906. It was officially named Po Lin Monastery in 1924. This is not only a famous Lantau attraction, but also a world-renowned Buddhist establishment for its prominent architectural structures. The main architecture of Po Lin Monastery has a specific architectural layout. Along the main axis, San Men (Mountain Gate) would lead up to the Hall of Skanda Bodhisattva, the Main Shrine Hall of Buddha, and the Grand Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas. On the flanks, in symmetrical arrangements, are the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, the Meditation Hall, the Dining Hall and the Sangha Hall. These edifices combine to form an orderly monastery complex.
The Big Buddha, also known as Tian Tan Buddha, is famed as the most iconic attraction of Lantau. Sitting next to the Po Lin Monastery. The majestic outdoor bronze Buddha statue sits solemnly atop the peak of Mount Muk Yue. It is seated south and facing North towards Beijing, the capital of China. Divided into two parts, the statue's body is 26.4m tall and 34m in total measuring from the lotus throne and the base. It was cast with 250 tonnes of bronze and built over 12 years. The statue was modelled after Siddhartha, who achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The “imparting fearlessness” mudra of the right hand indicates compassion to save all sentient beings from their sufferings; the “fulfilling wishes” mudra of the left hand resting on the lap, implies the vow to grant blessing and happiness to all.
Ngong Ping Cable Car connects Ngong Ping and Tung Chung on Lantau Island. Adopting a safe and reliable bi-cable ropeway, the cable car is first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong. You will be greeted with the vistas of the distant and vast South China Sea and the rolling greens of North Lantau Country Park. At the comfort of the cabin, enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the Hong Kong International Airport, verdant, mountainous terrain of Lantau Island and the 360-degree view of Ngong Ping Plateau.

Language
Mandarin is the official language of China, while Cantonese is also a common language in the region. Most hotels in the country have staff fluent in other languages, but English may only be reliably spoken by individuals in tourist facilities. It’s therefore recommended to have addresses or instructions written down in Chinese to show to taxi drivers. All major streets have signposts in pinyin (the Romanisation system for Chinese characters), which make it easier to get around with the help of a map. Many people in China, especially young people, study English and welcome the opportunity to practise with foreigners. Don't be afraid to ask for directions in English from people on the street. You’ll usually be rewarded with a polite and often heroic attempt to help.
Visas to the Mainland
Most foreign nationals require a visa to enter the Mainland. Visas should be obtained from the Embassy or Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in the applicant’s country before departing to the Mainland. For details, please contact your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate.
Customs
Visitors entering the Mainland must follow the regulations of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China. For details, please check the China National Tourism Administration website.
Climate
Be prepared for your trip by checking out the Weather Website for GBA before you depart.
